As we begin the Summer, don’t forget this is the prime season for what I call “branch tour” fraud. The criminals will be packing up their cars and heading for some “fun in the sun.” They will need a little cash. What better way than to cash a few small dollar counterfeit checks on the way to the . At a minimum, make sure your staff is up-to-date on proper customer identification and the endorsements on checks allowed under the Uniform Commercial Code (“UCC”). Snooki and Jwoww have been alerted and they said that they will share with other friends on the Jersey Shore.
Did you know that the benchmark Supreme Court case dealing with sexual harassment involved a bank? The case is Michelle Vinson vs. Meritor Savings Bank (477 U.S. 57 1986). The bank in the case was actually Capital City Federal Savings and Loan (which was acquired by Meritor Savings Bank). The individuals involved were a teller and a bank manager. I worked there at this time. It’s a great training story which I have used over the years when I have taught sexual harassment training. If you want/NEED sexual harassment training, please feel to reach out to either myself or Barry here at Thompson Consulting.
The United States Postal Service (“USPS”) is FINALLY beginning to address the mail theft pandemic. The arrow master keys to many postal mailboxes, which have been the target of mail thieves, are being replaced with electronic locks (49,000 replacements set to be installed across the United States). Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope that this will be a big step in addressing our nationwide check fraud pandemic.
Have a fun and safe summer , my friends.
