Providing Law Enforcement With Video Footage
Aug 02, 2023Question: Hope all is well out East and not too much snow. We have video of a person cashing a check that they forged. Is it ok to give law enforcement a copy of the video if they ask? Just curious about privacy and search warrants and the like.
Answer: My first comment is that we are not lawyers, so this isn’t a legal opinion. The Thompson Consulting Group Rule 1 is that If you are the victim, as in someone has stolen from your financial institution, you can supply the video or information needed to law enforcement. Remember to keep a copy of anything you hand to law enforcement. If, however, someone else is the victim, then you need a subpoena.
